SEEK GOD! SEEK GOOD!!

By: Kirbbie L. Cowart

If there ever was a time for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ to seek the Lord it is now. As you look around you see people living as though they will never die. I am not talking about the world; I am talking about church people. The things people say and do, I am sure if they thought they were to meet God the next day, they would not do them.

We wonder why people will not come to church when we invite them. It is because of the life they see lived every day by so-called Christians.  The sinner sees how people treat one another in and out of church. They see people trying to work through their problems of drugs, bondages and divorce.  They see the so-called Christian setting their affection on the things of the world just like the world. More money, bigger cars, and bigger homes; just like the world trying to win the lottery.  “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory (Colossians 3:1-4).”   I remember when the lottery came to Texas.  I had set my gospel tent up in a small town.  I pulled into a gas station to fill up the two-ton tent truck.  I saw all these used lottery tickets on the ground; I counted over fifty of them. I could have filled my truck with gas with the money spent on lottery tickets that day.

If there is one thing I would like to say to the church of Jesus Christ it is this, give your self wholly to the Lord in seeking his presence in your life every day. Ask him to come and live his life in you and through you, to reach the world around you, before it is to late.  "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful (Colossians 3: 12).”  When a sinner sees the life of Jesus Christ in the believer they will seek help from the church.

The Child of God should be happy, knowing that God is all we need. “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).”   God is all that we need. People think having great wealth will make them happy, but money cannot heal a broken heart or comfort a broken spirit.  Jesus said in Matthew 16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”  I ask that you stop what you are doing for a moment and take a look at your life. How is it with your soul?  If today would be your last day here on this earth would your life be pleasing to the Lord. Have you prayed today? Have you told Him how much you love Him? Have you given Him thanks for all that He has done for you?  A few years ago my wife sent me to the store for something.  As I was leaving the house I told her "Honey, I'll be back in a minute." Instantly the Lord said to me, "Are you sure you will make it back alive."  We all take life for granted.  Paul said we all would stand before Jesus Christ. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God;  and I trust also are made manifest in your conscience (II Corinthians 5:8).” Did you get it? Knowing the terror of the Lord we persuade men. I know this may not be what you have been hearing, but I am telling you with all the love of God I have for lost souls, please don't wait until it’s to late to seek the Lord.

I am asking all the born again Children of God for the next thirty days to seek the Lord in prayer, that as individuals we may know him, in a way we have never know him; that the life of Jesus would be made manifest in our body. If we are to do the work he did when he was on the earth, he must come alive in the believer's heart and life. When he comes alive in the believer, revival will break forth, men will be saved, miracles will take place and joy will return to the heart of the believer.  It is time to seek the Lord. We can complain about all the sin that is in the world but there will never come a change until God's people turn back to God once again.  “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (II Chronicles 7:14).”

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.      Isaiah 55:6

We must have a move of God in our land like never before. What we had forty years ago will not work for today; it must be greater. It must not be a man made hop and jump, laughing revival but a weeping, repenting on our faces before God revival.  After the last two revivals I had the pastors told me, "Boy, we had a good preaching revival," as if they were disappointed they did not have a running; jumping, laughing, calling out, prophesying, make me feel good, revival.   The preaching of the cross is the power of God.  “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God (I Corinthians 1:17-18).”

We need holy men of God to stand and preach the gospel like it would be their last time to preach. Children of God seek God for his presence to be made manifested in our lives. He did not say, if the sinner would humble themselves and pray, but he did say, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
